Flea Control Information A flea infestation is seen on the pet as resembling "black pepper," excessive itching and scratching, or redness of the skin. Flea infestation can be treated if these steps are carefully followed: We recommend the topical flea treatments Frontline or K9 Advantix, that kill and repel fleas at all stages of growth. Apply Frontline or K9 Advantix as the weather warms for the spring and repeat applications as prescribed throughout the spring, summer and fall. When an application of Frontline or K9 Advantix is done after fleas are found on the pet, treat the animal for at least two months to be sure to eliminate fleas. All dogs and cats in your family must be treated at the same time. Flea shampoos have a very short time of effectiveness and rinse off the pet leaving no further protection against fleas. Excessive application and bathing can cause skin irritation and unnecessary itching. Treat all fabrics, carpets and rugs in your home with Mycodex Spray. Increase the temperature of the water heater, wash all bedding, and dry at high heat. Vacuum all rugs, furniture, drapes, and especially the pet's sleeping area after treatment, then immediately throw the vacuum bag away outdoors. Fleas can live in the bag, crawl out, and re-infect your home. Most importantly, re-spray the fabrics and wash bedding on the 10th day. Flea eggs hatch in 10 days and will live to adulthood and re-infect your pet if the re-treatment is not done. Whole house bombs are not recommended as they contaminate items in your home that do not need to be treated for fleas; dishes, faucets, wood surfaces, etc.
