Birth to 12 hours

·         Iodine Navel

·         Give enema and observe passage of meconium

·         Observe normal urination

·         Observe ingestion of colostrum within three hours of birth

·         Average foal will stand in 1 hour and suckle in 2 hours

12-48 hours

·         Veterinary exam of foal, mare, and placenta

·         Tetanus Toxoid vaccination to foal

·         Tetanus Toxoid vaccination to mare

·         Blood test to document colostral absorption (IgG level),     Complete Blood Count (optional)

5-15 days

·         Observe foal for signs of illness

·         Foal heat diarrhea

2 months

·         Deworm

·         Tetanus Toxoid vaccination (1^st or 2^nd)

·         Eastern & Western vaccination (1^st)

·         Influenza vaccination (1^st)

·         Rhinopneumonitis vaccination (1^st)

·         Potomac Horse Fever vaccination (1^st)

·         Strangles vaccination (1^st)—if herd problem

·         Halter break

3 months

·         Tetanus Toxoid vaccination (2^nd or 3^rd)

·         Eastern & Western vaccination (2^nd)

·         Influenza vaccination (2^nd)

·         Rhinopneumonitis vaccination (2^nd)

·         Potomac Horse Fever vaccination (2^nd)

·         Strangles vaccination (2^nd)

·         West Nile Virus vaccination (1^st)

4 months

·         Deworm (deworm with herd)

·         Check toe length and trim if needed

·         West Nile Virus vaccination (2^nd)

6 months

·         Deworm (deworm with herd)

·         Castrate any time after 6 months

8 months

·         Deworm (deworm with herd)

10 months

·         Deworm (deworm with herd)

12 months

·         Deworm (deworm with herd)

·         Tetanus Toxoid booster

·         Eastern & Western booster

·         Influenza booster

·         Rhinopneumonitis booster
